Microsoft was founded in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen. The main headquarter is in Redmond, Washington, USA. The company is represented in 103 countries and regions with roughly 78 000 employees.
There are few regions in the world where the use of personal computers and the Internet is as widespread as in Sweden. This makes Sweden an important market for Microsoft for a long time.
The Microsoft corporate citizenship mission build on the philosophy that everyone can achieve incredible things provided with the resources they need. In Sweden the company therefor contributes to and runs a large number of cooperative projects with companies, authorities and organizations. Some examples include certification of experts on Microsoft's products in cooperation with the country's Collages, Universities and educational companies as well as sponsoring different IT-projects to create better opportunities for people with limited or no access to IT.
Today almost 500 people work at Microsoft AB which is located in Kista just north of Stockholm. Peter Kopelman is general manager of the Microsoft Sweden subsidiary since December 1, 2003.
