Scrum in the Waterfall – Case Study

This case study will examine the challenges faced by a pair of EMC Scrum Masters who were assigned to a project to transform a client’s IT Development team over to Scrum, and lead and manage a software development project that had “extreme” time constraints. Adding to the challenge, Senior Management was not part of, or supportive of the decision to switch to an Agile approach, and still demanded weekly updates that included waterfall artifacts and reporting. The team was able to develop a method managing the project that provided the Senior Managers with reports that met their needs and shielded the development team from the struggle of doing Scrum in a waterfall organization.
