Tutorial: Crafting Highly Usable Applications

tuesday, - afternoon
Track: Software craftsmanship

Any developer can hack together an interface, but a mark of true software craftsmanship is an attractive product that people enjoy using.  This hands-on tutorial will improve your ability to design and build intuitive software applications.

In a series of case studies we'll analyze the best and critique the worst web, desktop, and mobile applications in diverse fields from space exploration to video games.  In hands-on, collaborative exercises you'll mockup your own applications, evaluate their usability, and gain experience with a variety of powerful tools and techniques.  Developers, project leads, and managers will learn new skills that can be immediately applied to the creation of more usable applications in any programming language.
