Azure Storage Deep Dive

Track: Cloud & nosql, thursday 10:15 - 11:05

It`s not your grandmothers SQL box! Windows Azure storage represents somewhat of a step change in how we think about storing data in our cloud scale applications. In this session Chris Auld will provide the theory and practice of working with Windows Azure Storage. We will examine the specifics of Blob storage including deep information on the Windows Azure CDN and the Drives storage type. Discussions on Table storage will include an introduction to the types of non-relational modeling techniques required by this type of data store. Finally we will discuss the pricing model applied to Windows Azure storage, compare and contrast with SQL Azure and learn how to architect and optimize your application for the pricing model.

Architecting Cloud Scale Applications on the Windows Azure Platform

Track: Cloud & nosql, tuesday - afternoon

Gain the skills to architect and develop real-world applications using Windows Azure. Going beyond 'demo-ware' we examine the theory and technical implementation of large scale elastic applications. It is expected that attendees have some prior experience with Windows Azure and experience building ASP.NET applications. During this half-day workshop, we discuss approaches to delivering the best raw performance from our Windows Azure applications, and how to achieve linear scale-out through the use of additional instances. We also discuss data management approaches using Windows Azure and SQL Azure's partitioning capabilities. Lastly, we examine patterns for deploying Windows Azure applications reliably and with minimal or no impact on the end user experience, and the security environment within which Windows Azure operates, along with ways to provide a bridge between on-premises and cloud-based identity assets and applications. This session will provided a detailed discussion of the economics of cloud computing and how the Windows Azure pricing model presents opportunities to startups and enterprises alike to solve previously intractable problems such as massive elastic scale.
